Haldex Oil Services By The German Car Specialist

At Volks Autos, we specialise in maintaining the performance and longevity of your vehicle’s Haldex system. The Haldex system plays a crucial role in your vehicle’s all-wheel-drive function, and regular servicing ensures it continues to operate smoothly and efficiently.

Haldex Oil Service

Before draining your vehicle’s Haldex oil, we will perform a visual inspection to check for leaks. Once the oil has been drained, we will replace the filter (if applicable), along with any seals or washers removed during the process. We then refill the Haldex system with new oil according to your manufacturer’s specifications.

Haldex Oil Change + Filter Removal & Clean

For optimal performance, we also offer the option to remove the Haldex pump and clean the Haldex filter during the oil change (if applicable). This is highly recommended, particularly for high-spec vehicles, as it helps to prevent premature wear and extend the life of the Haldex system.

Our Haldex Oil Change Services are competitively priced and delivered with full transparency, so you know exactly what to expect. For more information, please contact our service team.

Haldex Service FAQs

What is the Haldex system?

If you have a 4wd car, the chances are your car uses the Haldex four wheel drive system. Unlike traditional four wheel drive systems, this allows the vehicle to return similar fuel consumption to that of a front wheel drive. As a result, the owner can benefit from the economy of a front wheel drive vehicle during everyday driving conditions, and the performance and handling benefits that come with a four wheel drive car.

Unlike differential oil, which lubricates, the Haldex oil is very specific and promotes friction between the faces of the multi-plate clutch setup. This friction between the plates causes particles of friction material to slowly build within the oil over a period of time. On most Haldex systems, a filter is installed which collects these unwanted particles, however in newer vehicles the filter is omitted in favour of an oil strainer at the pump which can be removed cleaned and refitted additionally to a regular service. Speak to our service team for details.

Why is a Haldex Service needed?

As the Haldex system is rather complicated in its nature, relying on high tolerances, containing specific oil, and generating a build up of friction particles over time, it is imperative that it is kept in only the best of conditions thanks to regular services being carried out. Dirty or old oil can cause burn out in the clutch, overheating the coupling and a resulting burn out in the Haldex pump, leading to a potential failure in the rear wheel drive and loss of power.

What is involved?

The procedure involves removing the old oil, then filter if applicable, then replacing the filter, filling with new oil to manufacturer’s grade specification, and correcting the oil level according to workshop procedure*.

When is a Haldex Service due?

The latest recommendation for the Haldex Service (four wheel drive oil change) is due every 3 years on vehicles that apply.
