APR Stage 1 ECU Upgrade is designed for vehicles with little to no physical modification. Your vehicle will see increases in brake horsepower (bhp), torque, and fuel efficiency.

 

 

What’s Involved During An APR Remap?

The technician will carry out a road test and a diagnostic check of the engine management system to ensure it is clear of any faults. The software is then flashed to the ECU via the diagnostic port. A minority of vehicles may require the ECU to be removed to be flashed. A final road test is carried out to ensure the file works well on the vehicle. This is a simple, safe, and quick process.

ECU Remapping

The ECU – What is it?

The Engine Control Unit is the ‘main computer’ for the engine. It processes signals and information from sensors to make decisions based on demand from the accelerator pedal. It also considers things such as engine temperature and oxygen content in the burnt exhaust gases. Depending on these signals and information, it will control and correct the quantity of fuel to provide a blend of fuel economy, performance and emission control.

What is ECU Remapping?

The remapping process is to first read the ECU’s processor to determine the vehicle’s standard map and then adjust various parameters within that map. Just a few of the parameters to be adjusted are fuel pressure, boost pressure (turbocharged engines) and ignition advance. The result of this process will successfully release your engine’s full potential! ECU Remapping will increase power and torque figures, give faster throttle response and widen the power band, achieving a more versatile engine with a more responsive drive. In addition, another important benefit of remapping is to gain fuel efficiency. Increased torque at lower engine speed demands less throttle input during acceleration and when maintaining constant vehicle speeds.  The vehicle can also be driven in a higher gear at lower speeds, thus requiring less engine speed, which also applies to driving when fully loaded, towing or driving through varied elevations.

Why haven’t manufacturers automatically given you the extra performance?

When your vehicle left the production line the manufacture installed software to the engine ECU which was conservatively designed to allow for varying fuel types from around the world. They need to take all these factors into consideration and therefore need to make significant compromises in their ECU maps. As with most developed countries not facing such restrictions, we can safely optimise outputs to unlock engine capability.

ECU Remapping is a safe process which allows the engine to perform the best it can.

DSG Remaps

Our DSG software has the following features: Raised torque limiter, slightly increased clutch pressure, add gear number indicator in instrument cluster in all DSG modes, retain OEM-like gearshift smoothness (or smoother), optimised shift points for faster acceleration, disabled kick-down in Manual mode (based on genuine DSG software from the TDI Cup race series), disabled up-shift in Manual mode (based on genuine DSG software from the TDI Cup race series), and, in most cases, launch control is added. Not all cars are able to take advantage of all these features, for example some 2012-2013 Passat TDIs may not show gear number in D mode.

 

Increased Torque Limiter

When tuning, the engine management system torque limiters are increased. However, if the vehicle is equipped with a DSG gearbox, the engine output will be limited by the torque limiter set in the DSG module. We raise the DSG torque limiter to match the engine torque output.

Quicker Shift Speeds

Shift speeds can be increased by up to 20%, this reduces lag and improves acceleration. The quicker shift speeds will also give a smoother transition between gear changes and improve paddle shift response time.

RPM Limits & Shift Set Points

RPM limits and shift set points can be adjusted in drive and sports mode. Adjusting the rpm limiter as part of the engine ECU Remap is not enough on a DSG equipped vehicle. The DSG ECU will determine at what rpm the gear shift takes place.

Launch Control

Launch control can be activated (model specific). Launch control will allow your car to make the perfect launch every time, reducing your 0 – 60 time and increasing the fun factor.

Full Manual Mode

Even when in manual mode, stock DSG software will force the gearbox to change up or kick down etc. With our custom DSG Remap, we are able to give the driver full control by preventing auto changing when in manual mode (Model Specific).
